Day 6 – SOUND OF MUSIC!

December 12, 2009

woots! it was Sound of Music day!
As the days are short in winter, we were in a rush today, hoping to be able to cover most of the places of attraction.

BUT THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY HAD TO BE THIS:
THE WELCOMING OF THE LEUNG FAMILY!! :)

WELCOME TO SALZBURG!!
What could be more meaningful than taking them on a Sound of Music tour around salzburg city since Michelle had been watching this all-time classic before she arrived in the city!

We headed back to Mirabell Garden once again as Michelle could relate to the steps where Maria and the kids sang ‘Do-Re-Mo’ and we could see that she loved being there! :)

Then it was time for our next SOM destination.
Remember the scene where Maria took the kids out without Captain Von Trapp’s consent – thereafter heading back to the home and falling from the boat into the water?
Yup, we were there! (but on the opposite side of the house. haha)

Headed to a pizzaria for lunch but we felt that the pizzas were way too salty…. :X

Well, it wasn’t that easy to hunt down all the locations where they filmed SOM – the next location that we were set on going was the SOM Pavillion where the song ‘You Are Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ was performed! :) It was rather challenging to search for this place because the sun had set by then and the parks were all super dark. Nevertheless, we were very set on hunting this place down for Michelle. Hurhurhur.
We were about to give up hope on finding this pavilion when suddenly, a camera flash lit up in the near distance and we saw THE PAVILLION!!! You should have seen that kind of excitement that was on everyone’s face when we spotted the pavilioon!

Here’s a group photo! !

and a final pic for the day before we all turn in:

Those pictures are irrefutable proof that you were indeed at the SOM film sets. I like the pictures of the fivesome – from Do to So.

For Michelle, she must be wondering how fast things she sees on celluloids, video, tv and books then pop up as reality – Mickey and friends at Disneyland, SOM at Salzburg, Eiffel Tower in Paris and many film sets duplicated at Universal Studios in Sentosa next year. Very lucky hor? When I was young, reality and fantasy were totally two different things and the twain did not ever meet.

The town of Salzburg has a population of 149,000 at the last official count. It is now 149,009.

I think I know why the pizzas you ate yesterday were salty. It was prepared at SALTzburg (as in S.A.L.T. – salt). You think this is far-out? May not be quite. Salzburg means ‘Salt Castle’, a name derived from the salt trade carried on in the province of Salzburg during the years of old. Just a humour.
